Which Joystick do YOU Use?
My absolute favorite Atari 2600 Joystick is the Slik Stik.
The action on this joystick is tight and repairs are a breeze. The design is quite simple. A metal ball protrudes down from the joystick into the assembly. The metal ball makes contact with 1 (or 2 for diagonal movement) metal tabs which completes a circuit and sends the direction signal to the Atari. Occasionally, the Slik Stik may need to be disassembled to have its metal contact points cleaned.
I have only ever broken 1 Slik Stik in 30 years, and this occurred internally. If the joystick is forcibly jammed, it is possible to break the internal plastic assembly which holds the metal contact tabs.
